A joint team at Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology have developed a method of micro-printing electrochromic displays onto surfaces. They used Prussian blue ink, which until now had limited applications due to it’s challenges with micro-patterning.

The team overcame this by developing a novel manufacturing technique to “3D-print” the electrochromic ink, and demonstrated it by creating a contact lens with a mini display built into it.
